You can achieve this by gently separating them with a scoop or by filtering a small amount through a funnel onto an under-sheet. This was bought as a replacement for the first blue one of this design I got. Drastically lighter shade of blue, which is disappointing. The loop on the first one broke off, so now I carry it in my pocket. Also, the screw to hold the ashes is now attached to the necklace loop instead of being the more secure type at the bottom of the first one I purchased about a year ago. I would not bothered getting this if I had know about the design change and color difference from my previous purchase.
